Q: What's the difference between a Scootcar and a scooter?

A: Our namesake, the Scootcar, is a three-wheeled scooter that has an
addition two wheels in the rear that act as stabilizers. Our scooters
are two-wheeled motorbikes - like mopeds or Vespas.

Q: Are the Scootcars street-legal?

A: The Scootcars are registered as 3 wheel motorcycles and must be driven on the street only, following all rules of the road just like you do when in your own vehicle. Off-roading or driving on sidewalks and bike trials is prohibited, and really dumb.

Q: How old do I need to be to rent a scooter or Scootcar from you?

A: If you are 16 years-old with a driver's permit, you may drive a
Scootcar with a parent or guardian if they ride with you in the
vehicle and if they have ID. To drive a scooter, you must be 18
years-old with the proper license.

Q: Where can I drive the scooter or Scootcar?

A: You may go anywhere in San Francisco that you'd like. You must
remain on the road; off-roading and or driving on sidewalks and freeways or bridges is prohibited. The scooters and Scootcars may not leave the city of San Francisco. We offer you a route map that has suggested one and two-hour tours. Click here for more details on the routes.

Q: What do I need to rent a Scootcar from you?

A: You'll need a driver's license and a major credit card (Visa,
Master Card, American Express, JCB, Carte Blanche, Diners Club,or Discover), which we use for a $200 deposit per vehicle. Once you return with our vehicle, the deposit is returned immediately.

Q: What do I need to rent a scooter from you?

A: To rent a scooter from us, you will need a valid driver's license.
If you are from the state of California, you are required to have a
motorcycle license or permit (M1 class). If you are from another state or
country, the only other requirement is that you are able to ride a motorbike very well before taking to the streets of San Francisco. If you're not 100% comfortable on a motorbike, San Francisco is not the place to practice.

Q: What are your rental rates?

A: Currently, our rates for Scootcars are $49 for the 1st hour, $40 the second, and $30 each hour following, the full-day rate is $179.

Q: What's included in the rental price?

A: The rental fee includes gas, mileage, your helmet, route map and tax.

Q: How about insurance? Does the rental price include insurance?

A: No. For those guests of Scootcar Rentals that are 25 years of age
or older, we do offer additional limited damage insurance for the vehicle
only. It's $9 extra and comes with a $500.00 deductible for scooters; $1000.00 for Scootcars.
